Breast MRI

Breast MRI is a valuable tool to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Breast MRI is not a replacement for mammography or ultrasound, but rather a supplemental tool used in conjunction with mammography.

At Shady Grove Radiology, we use magnetic resonance technology specifically designed to image the breasts.

Breast MRI, unlike other medical imaging tests, does not use radiation to produce images. Breast MRI is a pain free procedure, performed by highly trained breast imaging technologists, under the direction of a board certified radiologist. The radiologist will analyze the MRI images, compare them with other breast imaging studies as available, and provide a report to your physician.

Palpable mass with negative mammogram or ultrasound High risk patients with first or second relative with breast or ovarian cancer Suspicious mammographic lesion Breast mass in pregnancy Possible mass in patients with breast implants Breast implant integrity Known breast cancer to check for other lesions or recurrence after treatment Staging of breast cancer
